Global tax issues for expats

Sample Title
Expatsradio spoke to Oliver Heslop, UK Tax Specialist, Global Expatriate Tax Services Ltd (“GETS”) about the change in rules to taxation that might impact on expats. we asked him what sort of clients he works with. "We have a few different client types.  British people overseas who need UK tax support eg how to stay UK non-resident for tax, how to comply with UK tax laws during their absence.  We assist Europeans, US nationals and others who live in the UK for employment.  They require help to minimise UK tax, to comply with all the UK rules.'
We moved on to discuss the recent changes and some issues that should be addressed. He told us, "In 2013, the UK Government changed the UK tax rules on residence.  There are thousands of British nationals overseas who could now be at risk of UK tax residence.   Many travel back to the UK regularly, even work here occasionally, and the new rules will apply.  We aim to ensure that they are not caught by the new traps.  We often prepare a personalised guide compliance for them.
For long-term Brits abroad, we stress that in the long-term they should be entitled to a UK state pension.  We advise on how to secure these rights.
Finally, we act for foreign nationals based in the UK; typically well paid and often in London.  They can often claim significant UK tax reliefs, but they face a higher risk of investigation by HMRC.  We advise them on how to comply with all HMRC rules.  Even how to defend an HMRC enquiry if appropriate.
Pleae listen to the programme which contains some very useful advice for al expats.
